FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 b o o k s @ g r e a t n o r t h e r n p u b l i s h i n g . c o . u k

Q: How is The Great War delivered?
A: The Great War magazine is sent in a plain A5 post-safe envelope with your name and address on the front and our company name and postal address on the back. We introduced a new 'cardboard envelope service' last year due to magazines getting damaged in the post - if you wish to use this service please see the 'Contents and Subscription' page for full details.

Q: When will I receive my copies of The Great War?
A: Once you have subscribed you will receive The Great War in the first full week of the month of publication. The date of the publication of each issue is printed on the back of each preceeding issue.

Q: Will The Great War appear on my credit card statement?
A: No. Only our company name (Great Northern Publishing) will appear. You should be aware that on statements it is often abbreviated.

Q: Will I get a receipt or statement?
A: Yes. All subscribers get a subscription receipt and (if they have paid by credit card) a credit card receipt - these are usually dispatched with the first magazine of your subscription.

Q: I am not from the UK. How do I pay in British Pounds Sterling?
A: When paying by credit card just enter the amount as shown in British Pounds Sterling and your credit card company will do the currency conversion for you: it will be shown correctly on your card statement. (Some credit card companies may make a small charge for the conversion - many do not.)

Q: How is The Great War sent in the UK?
A: The Great War magazine is dispatched in an A5 post-safe envelope and sent by Royal Mail second class mail.

Q: How is The Great War sent outside the UK?
A: The Great War magazine is dispatched in an A5 post-safe envelope and sent by air mail.

Q: Is The Great War printed in other languages?
A: No. The Great War is printed in English only.

Q: Can I buy The Great War from shops or newsagents?
A: No. The Great War magazine is only available via subscription direct from ourselves.

Q: How much of my personal information do you have on file?
A: Once an order or subscription has been processed we only retain your name and address for mailing purposes.

Q: Do you keep my credit card details on computer?
A: No. Once an order is processed we do not keep card details on computer.

Q: Why do I need to give you my telephone number?
A: We require a landline telephone number in case there are any problems in processing your order so that we can resolve matters quickly.

Q: But I am ex-directory and do not want to give my number out.
A: We require a telephone number, but once an order is processed we do not keep the number on computer. We do not use the information for 'cold calling' nor do we pass the information on to third parties.

Q: Will you use my number to contact me for anything else?
A: No. The number is only for resolving problems with orders.

Q: Will anyone else have access to my information?
A: No. We do not share, sell or hire our mailing and subscriber lists to anyone.

Q: How will I know when to renew my subscription?
A: At the end of the subscription year every subscriber receives a reminder to renew with their final issue (it is enclosed with the July issues).

Q: Why is The Great War so 'small'?
A: The 76-page Great War magazine is published in the popular A5 continental style and is not crammed full of adverts, or with redundant editorial waffle, which is why it does not need 200 pages!

Q: Will The Great War be published monthly in the future?
A: It is our long-term aim to see The Great War go monthly - but as yet we do not have firm plans.

Q: Are you a British company, part of a larger group, or an overseas company?
A: We are a British company. We are a small, award-winning family company based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and have no links or connections to any other company either here, or anywhere overseas.

Q: How do I subscribe?
A: Just click on the yellow 'order' button at the top of this page and you will be taken to our secure ordering facility, where you can either order on line now, or print out an order form to send by post. Please note, this is not a 'shopping cart' style site, and you will be required to type in your information.

Q: Can I subscribe by telephone?
A: Yes. Please telephone 01723 581329 during normal office hours and ask to subscribe to The Great War magazine.
